EDMONDS — A double track for railway travel along the Edmonds waterfront is far from a done deal.

With 80 percent of the grading completed, adding the second track remains “under review,” according to Gus Melonas, director, public affairs for Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railway.

Grading will be completed by the end of the year along with drainage enhancements, he told The Enterprise.

“We should know by December, for the two-mile segment, when the double track will be complete,” he said.

In September BNSF will complete a bridge. During that construction the track will shift around the spot where the bridge is being built.

In October a second bridge will be constructed in anticipation of an eventual track number two, Melonas said. No timeline has been set for the addition.

Other stakeholders, including Sound Transit, will be a part of discussions about the second track.
