Patricia Brier, Edmonds art photographer and creator of the Edmonds Mural Society’s first mural, recently unveiled an entirely new series of work entitled “Dreamscapes,” currently on display at Manya Vee Selects in downtown Edmonds through March 16.

In the “Dreamscapes” series, Brier incorporates anywhere from 6-14 images into a completely new work of art. There is a surreal but inviting aspect to the series. Themes present in each one of the series include clocks, windows and doors. Brier intends to leave each work open-ended so the viewer can engage their own story with it.

“Day dreams, night dreams, endless imaginings, all create dreamscapes allowing us to reach beyond the mundane for the magic of visions that await,” Brier said of the series. “Clocks symbolize the passing of time, forward and backward; windows and doors are the gateways to and from our dreams; all combine to give us a new awareness to the complexities of life, resolution of challenges, and maybe a little glimpse of heaven.”

For nearly ten years, Brier’s art form has developed from straightforward art photography, into what she describes as photo montages. Rather than a single photo, Brier takes elements from 4-12 photos and “collages” them together digitally to create a story. Adding some text completes the piece.

A few months ago, she encountered the phrase “digital conceptualization,” and some ideas began percolating in her mind. At first, she attempted to keep words in the finished pieces, but finally let go of that previous format, finding it too restrictive. It was then that the floodgates opened up and this new series was born.
