A reunited Ginny Reilly &David Maloney bring their timeless folk sound to the Wade James Theatre in Edmonds March 29.
Expect old favorites and “new classics” from these two storied, accomplished musicians, who, in addition to recording a live reunion album in 2003, have recently completed reissuing their entire catalog on CD and DVD.
With careers that date back to 1970 and a devoted following around the Northwest, Reilly &Maloney packed houses across the country for three decades, sharing stages with the likes of Judy Collins, Tom Paxton, and Greg Brown. Maloney’s fine baritone interlacing with Reilly’s pure soprano is described by one folk music DJ as “a small antidote to the fear, despair, and powerlessness that is part of our current world.”
The acoustic duo combined harmonies, original songs and covers to create a sound that was fertile ground for a loyal fan base. After seven albums and 3,000 concerts, the duo took a 10 year hiatus in 1991, returning to performing in 2001.
Reilly &Maloney’s most recent CD is another live effort: “brighter light: a tribute to Tom Dundee” — Dundee was a mainstay in the Chicago folk, sometimes-resident of the Northwest, and dear friend of David’s and Ginny’s who passed away in April 2006. No other act recorded or performed more of Dundee’s material, and Dundee penned many Reilly &Maloney classics such as “Delicate Balance” and “Hello My Heart.”
“It’s nice to play to a full house and have people appreciate the work that we’ve done. We’re excited to be back together,” Maloney said back in 2002. “After all the years together it’s nice to feel the affirmation of our choices as young people.”
