There are certain fundamental laws of theoretical physics and engineering thermodynamics that, like natural laws, i.e.: gravity, cannot be violated.
The First Law of Thermodynamics says, (simplifying) “You can’t get something for nothing.” Every endeavor takes an energy (work) input of some kind.
Think about the human and mechanical/electrical energy required to get us oil and natural gas.
Oil companies spend big money leasing land. They are buying access to a great deal of territory, much of which contains no oil and gas. They have to spend more big money pinpointing the parts of that land to locate those energy resources.
All the while, they have to weave their way through a labyrinth of environmental rules that Congress has imposed on them, plus defend themselves against bogus legal attacks from green environmental extremists. Then, even when oil is found, it can take years to prepare to drill.
Oil companies are spending fortunes surveying, building facilities on, and even drilling on much of this land, though it may officially be classified as non-producing. The fact of the matter is that 94 percent of federal onshore lands remain unleased, while 97 percent of offshore areas are similarly off-limits to oil exploration.
So when Nancy Pelosi and other Congressional Democrats claim the oilmen are “sitting” on all that land, under which lies an ocean of crude they are gleefully keeping from consumers, these people are lying through their well-sharpened political teeth.
After three years of being off line due to hurricane damage in the Gulf of Mexico and millions of hours of energy input, an oil platform, on June 20, began reproducing 250,000 barrels of oil per day.
