The Snohomish County solid waste transfer station and recycle center in Mountlake Terrace will be closed after March 16 until summer 2004 for a major remodel.

According to Snohomish County solid waste director Jeff Kelley-Clarke disposal needs have outgrown the current facility and a new station has been designed to accommodate area growth. The new facility, mostly covered, will feature a new “flat floor” design, additional scale houses, a new expanded recycling area and additional holding lanes to keep traffic off the street, he said.

A parcel of property across the street from the current site will be used as the new, larger recycling center. It will have larger containers and a staff member will be stationed there to keep the area clean, he said.
