A pair of teams are aiming for back-to-back 4A District 1 basketball championships.
Western Conference South Division champion Edmonds-Woodway takes on Wesco North Division champion Snohomish in the boys title game at 6 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23 at Jackson High School.
The two teams met in last year’s district tournament with the Warriors coming out on top 57-53, though the Panthers avenged that loss with a 47-40 win later at the state tournament.
Edmonds-Woodway (19-3) has three player averaging in double figures with senior center Connor Donaldson the team’s top scorer (15.1 points per game). Senior guard James Conti is averaging 13.0, while senior guard Sean Laue is averaging 10.0.
Snohomish (19-3) is led by the one-two punch of Zach Wilde (15.9) and Brad Shaw (11.3).
In the girls championship game at 8 p.m., also at Jackson High School, Jackson, the South Division champion, goes for its second straight title against North Division champion Lake Stevens. The Timberwolves beat Snohomish 54-44 in last year’s title contest.
UW-bound Kristi Kingma is averaging a team-high 21.3 points, while sophomore guard Erin Feeney has emerged as a serious outside threat. Feeney is averaging 12.0 points, while senior guard Ashly Bruns contributed 11.2 points per game for the Timberwolves (21-1).
Mary Ochiltree (15.6) and Karri Gallagher (14.0) have led Lake Stevens to a 21-1 overall record.
