The Edmonds-Woodway baseball team wrapped up the Western Conference 4A South Division’s No. 2 berth to the district playoffs despite dropping a pair of games to league champion Kamiak this week.
The Warriors will host the North Division’s No. 3 team at 4 p.m. May 13 in a first-round playoff game.
Edmonds-Woodway trailed Kamiak 6-4 heading into the top of the seventh inning when the Knights exploded for eight runs to seal a 14-4 victory Monday afternoon at Edmonds-Woodway High School.
“It kind of got away from us at the end,” Warriors coach Joe Webster said. “Kamiak is a good team.”
Three days earlier, Edmonds-Woodway staged a furious comeback, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to upend Everett 13-12 in a May 2 contest.
The Warriors trailed 12-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.
One of the big blows was Matt Crosbie’s bases-loaded double with two outs, which trimmed the deficit to 12-11. Titus Lester followed with a double to score Crosbie and tie the score. Lester later scored the winning run on a wild pitch.
Crosbie was 2-for-4 with a double and five RBI.
The stunning victory was due in large part due to good luck and some timely two-out hitting.
“We got a couple of hits when we needed to,” Webster said. “You certainly need some luck … We never quit playing and that’s good.”
