Edmonds-Woodway High graduate Kristin Hepler, a junior at Western Oregon University, finished fifth overall in the hammer throw at the NCAA Division II track and field championships May 22 at Southern Illinois University. Hepler, a 2000 graduate, earned all-American honors with her throw of 177 feet. Hepler threw the shot put and discus in high school but took up the hammer in college.
Western Oregon men’s and women’s track teams both captured Great Northwest Athletic Conference team championships.
