All four Edmonds District football teams are looking to rebound after tough losses last week.

While Meadowdale pushed Kamiak to overtime before finally succumbing 28-25, the three other teams had a much more difficult time of it.

Edmonds-Woodway dropped its fourth straight game, a 49-8 loss to Jackson. Wolfpack senior running back Johnie Kirton rushed for 257 yards and five touchdowns in what was the Timberwolves’ first-ever victory over the Warriors Sept. 25 at Everett Stadium.

Looking for its first victory of the season, Edmonds-Woodway (0-3 in the league, 0-4 overall) should get a big boost from a homecoming crowd in tonight’s 5 p.m. game against Shorecrest (0-3, 1-3) at Edmonds Stadium.

The Scots lost 21-20 in triple overtime to Shorewood last week in game many observers thought the Scots should have won.

“Shorewood is a good team,” Edmonds-Woodway coach John Gradwohl said. “Shorecrest is a lot better than people think.”

Though the 40-14 final score wasn’t much different than Lynnwood’s previous four defeats, coach Andrew Burton saw significant progress from his players in last week’s loss to Everett.

“We had a much better effort,” he said. “I’m really proud of the way the kids came out to play. I’m proud of the way we ended the game. We played at a different level.”

Senior running back Randall Eldridge had a big day, scoring a pair of touchdowns. Eldridge returned a fumble 76 yards in the third quarter and then had a 96-yard run in the fourth quarter.

“Randall Eldridge is a standout athlete,” Burton said. “He’s a leader who leads by example. He has done a great job.”

Though penalties weren’t that significant of an issue against the Seagulls, Burton is still looking to cut down on the yellow flags.

“Anytime you have a penalty it shows a lack of discipline,” he said. “That’s not something we want to display.”

Burton was pleased to see his team cause a turnover and is looking to continue to improve on run defense.

“We just want to get more people involved,” said Burton, who noted that he had a couple more players turn out for the team.

The Royals (0-3, 0-4) travel to Shorewood (1-2, 2-2) for a 7 p.m. game tonight at Shoreline Stadium.

The Mountlake Terrace offense struggled against Mariner in a 49-7 loss. The Hawks (1-2, 1-3) mustered only 29 yards of offense in the first half and finished the game with 122 total yards.

The Marauders (3-0, 4-0) scored 28 points in the first quarter and led 42-0 at halftime.

Mountlake Terrace travels to Everett (2-1, 3-1) for a 7 p.m. game tonight at Everett Stadium.

Like its district rival Edmonds-Woodway, it is homecoming week at Meadowdale (2-1, 2-2), which will have plenty of supporters at its 8 p.m. game against Mariner at Edmonds Stadium.
