For local students, Edmonds Community College’s annual Soundsation Jazz Camp is a premier jazz experience named for the college’s vocal jazz choir that takes place Aug. 1 through 7 on the college’s campus. For community jazz enthusiasts, the camp offers a special opportunity to attend four public performances highlighting some of the best jazz groups in the area.
Edmonds Community College’s vocal jazz choir leads the series with a special Soundsation CD Release Party at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1. The group performs selections from its new CD, “Dig Count Basie,” a tribute to the music of the jazz bandleader and pianist. The free concert takes place in EdCC’s Triton Union Building 202.
Just 4 Kicks, a zany a cappella vocal quartet featuring Edmonds Community College’s music instructor Kirk Marcy, performs at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2 in Triton Union Building 202. Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.
At 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, renowned drummer, bassist, pianist and vocalist Duffy Jackson, performs in Triton Union Building 202. Tickets are also $10 for this concert and will be available at the door.
The Gala Finale Concert features a performance by jazz camp singers and instrumentalists at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 in the Seaview Gym. Admission is free to the event.
Soundsation Jazz Camp offers school age students in grades 7 and up the opportunity to attend specialized music theory classes, workshops and rehearsal sessions for jazz vocalists, instrumentalists, sound technicians and music educators.
