Now that the weather has finally warmed up a bit (and we’re placing the emphasis on bit), the cold and damp residents of the Pacific Northwest are heading outdoors in droves.
After all, when you live in an area notorious for its annual rainfall averages, you can’t take these summer days for granted.
And so we flock to the forests, rivers, pools and parks in order to catch a few rays of golden sunshine (while wearing sunscreen, of course).
But while you’re enjoying the great outdoors, please remember that it only takes a split second for a day of fun to turn deadly.
Just in the last few weeks, there have been reports of toddlers falling out of windows by pressing against the screens, a near drowning at a Mountlake Terrace pool and the tragic death of an Everett teenager in the Skykomish River.
Be sure to keep safety in mind as you take advantage of the high temperatures: supervise your children at all times, and wear a helmet or a life jacket where appropriate.
Accidents will happen, and sometimes there is nothing you can do to prevent them. But by taking every precaution, you can reduce the chances of tragedy striking your carefree summer day.
