A new study of the impact of passenger airline service at Paine Field, made by Thomas/Lane Associates of Seattle, concluded airline service would attract and retain high-tech businesses in Everett.

The $70,000 report, presented to the Everett City Council July 16, also predicted that noise problems from air service at the airport would be small and could be remedied. It also noted little impact is expected on property values near the airport or increased traffic congestion.

Everett officials are calling the study the first unbiased report on the impact of commercial air flights at Paine Field. Council members said they requested the study to determine whether the potential benefits of commercial flights outweigh any anticipated negative impacts on the community, such as increased noise and lower property values.
