BUENOS AIRES, Argentina
A colleague says that a firefighter from Edmonds died while climbing on Mount Aconcagua in Argentina.
Chief Thomas Tomberg of the Edmonds Fire Department confirmed that Arthur DeLisle died while climbing the highest peak in the Americas.
Tomberg said Monday that 51-year-old DeLisle was a firefighter, paramedic and former U.S. Marine. He is originally from Kansas and leaves a wife and stepson.
Argentine officials say DeLisle was hiking alone Friday when he was hit by falling rock. He died of a head injury and a collapsed lung.
At least five people have died on Aconcagua during the summer climbing season in the Southern Hemisphere. A 31-year-old French citizen has been missing since Jan. 4.
