The Edmonds Arts Commission presents the final performance in the Concert in the Parks series, featuring the Austrian polka group Happy Hans, from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22 at Edmonds City Park.

The Happy Hans band has been performing their lively brand of Oktoberfest music for over 25 years, a show highlighted by traditional songs and brightly colored authentic costumes.

The late Happy Hans, Sr. was born in the small village of Lanersbach, in the Tyrolean Alps, where he grew up singing, yodeling and playing Austrian tunes. The band continues his tradition today under the leadership of Happy Hans, Jr. who began yodeling and playing trumpet and accordion in his father’s band at the age of eleven. Drummer Rolf Sellhast is responsible for the solid, happy beat of the band. Bert MacDonald provides the steady sounds of the tuba and bass. Kory Tideman, on the button-box accordion, adds harmony to the group with his rich Scandinavian background.

This year’s Summer Concerts in the Park series is sponsored by Acura of Lynnwood and Lynnwood Honda with assistance from the Washington State Arts Commission. Concerts are presented by the Edmonds Arts Commission on behalf of the Edmonds City Council and are accessible to persons with disabilities.

To celebrate this year’s successful outdoor concert season, the arts commission is hosting children’s art activities prior to the performance, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Edmonds City Park is at located at 3rd and Pine Streets in downtown Edmonds. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket. In the event of rain, the concert will be canceled.
