Update: This story has been corrected. An earlier version did not label the assessed values of the three properties correctly.
The 20-acre redevelopment site on Edmonds’ waterfront has been much discussed, debated and dreamed about.
Having dominated city politics for nearly a year, a scheduled two-hour discussion about the redevelopment site Tuesday, May 27 could prove pivotal.
The City Council is scheduled to discuss during its 7 p.m. council meeting the possibility of purchasing some of the land — the properties north of Harbor Square have an assessed value of $12.1 million in 2008, according to the Snohomish County Assessor.
The old Skippers site is owned by developer Bob Gregg, and is valued at $1,181,000. State Department of Transportation land just south of the Skippers site is valued at $1,180,400.
The Antique Mall property is owned by Al Dykes and the Edmonds Shopping Center associates, and is valued at $9,738,900.
Dreams of parks, of aquatic centers, or of developments built and governed without the demands of private financial pressure have circulated since talks first started.
A decision Tuesday, however, will not answer all questions.
None of the three property owners have indicated any serious interest in selling. Dykes, for instance, has said he would expect roughly $16 million to sell his parcel.
