I feel compelled to comment on Mr. Loos July 20th letter: “Tall buildings” are “Mr. Orvis’ “battle cry.” This issue was only put to rest because of courageous people such as Orvis, Wambolt, Dawson and Plunkett who consistently voted against the three story and up building proliferation in downtown Edmonds. Olson, Moore and Marin have consistently voted and advocated for higher buildings to suit the “needs” of the developers. I believe that should Olson, Peterson, Wilson and Marin be on the council, the height issue will be again front and center and will pass without a hitch. To figure out the candidates, follow the money trail.

The state public disclosure Web site, http://www.pdc.wa.gov/servlet/ContribServlet, shows, for example, that D.J. Wilson has donors from Seattle, Yakima, Washington D.C., Orlando, Los Angeles, Tucson, etc. Very few donors from Edmonds other than already elected officials. Go check it out! It is most enlightening!

Let’s re-elect Dave Orvis, who intelligently proposed compromises and works hard towards thoughtfully developing Edmonds while preserving its character and charm, downtown and in all the neighborhoods. He has proven to us what he stands for and he can be trusted. He is sponsored mostly by Edmonds citizens’ dollars, not by big outside moneyed interests.

Let’s also elect a fresh voice: Adrienne Fraley-Monillas, who is a lifelong Edmonds resident and is sponsored by Deanna Dawson, who has steadfastly protected Edmonds. Let’s also elect Steve Bernheim, who is passionate both about preservation of the resources of Edmonds history and the preservation of our natural resources for a better and greener future. Steve is an intelligent forward thinker; we need him on the council.

At voting time, please remember the names: Dave Orvis, Adrienne and Steve Bernheim. They are our best hope for a vibrant yet full of charm Edmonds. They will not allow Edmonds to become another overcrowded city filled with unattractive, irrelevant and oversized buildings just for the sake of the almighty dollar.
