Elections officials don’t know all of the mechanics of the special election for the last few weeks of Congressman Jay Inslee’s term in the old 1st Congressional District.

Snohomish County elections officials don’t know what the filing fee will be for the special election or even if filing will be separate from the filing for the full term in the new 1st District.

Gov. Chris Gregoire has called the special election to fill the vacancy in the district that Inslee represented before his March resignation.

Many who will vote in the new 2nd or 7th districts for the term that begins in January will vote for the short term in the old 1st District.

County Elections Manager Garth Fell said last week that officials from the three counties that will be part of the election will meet with state officials in the next few days to discuss the mechanics of filing for the special election.

Fell called the short term in a redistricting year a unique situation.
