AASF offering free stream surveys

Swamp Creek, North Creek and Little Bear Creek flow from rapidly urbanizing southwest Snohomish County to the Sammamish River and Lake Washington. Quilceda Creek flows through the Urban Growth Area between Arlington and Marysville into the Snohomish River.

The salmon habitat in these streams is in trouble, said Northwest Stream Center director Tom Murdoch.

Many culverts are too small to allow fish passage, stream banks are severely eroded, and several spawning areas have been completely scoured away. Water quality in these streams has degraded to the point where they are not suitable for contact recreation for people.

To combat these problems, the Adopt-A-Stream Foundation is offering free stream surveys for landowners along these streams to explore ways of improving salmon habitat and water quality.

After the survey is complete, AASF will prepare an enhancement plan and work in partnership with the landowner to find resources to fix any problem(s) discovered.
