The Music &Arts Ministries of Edmonds United Methodist Church (EUMC) present their annual community Christmas program, “Gloria: A Celebration of the Traditions of Christmas” Dec. 9 and 10.
A musical production in three acts, “Gloria” explores the Book of Luke and includes three different musical interpretations of “Gloria in Excelsis” by nearly 75 vocalists, instrumentalists, percussionists, hand bell ringers, players, featuring guest tenor Kenneth Gayle.
Gayle is an alumnus of the Lyric Opera Center for American Artists and a cum laude graduate of the College of Creative Arts at West Virginia University. The Seattle native is also a past recipient of the Seattle Opera Guild scholarship for voice and opera theater and a former member of the Seattle Opera Young Artist Program.
Under the direction of Stephen Marshall-Ward, EUMC’s music and arts ministries have grown over the past six years to include more than 125 congregants and encompass a regular rehearsal schedule for four choirs, a vocal ensemble, drama group, instrumental group, two hand bell choirs, liturgical dance ministry, visual arts ministry including a new active Art Gallery, and a Percussion Ministry with a new Artist-in-Resident program.
“‘Gloria’ represents a true celebration of Christ’s birth, and the traditions we all love, said Marshall-Ward. “We are excited to present this production to the community and are honored to have such a talent as Kenneth Gayle joining us in the celebration.”
