An Everett siding contractor was charged March 7 with first-degree theft of more than $45,000 in sales tax he collected on jobs but never remitted to the state.
The state attorney general’s office filed the charge against Venianmin M. Semenyuk, 27, in Snohomish County Superior Court at the request of the Washington State Department of Revenue.
Semenyuk has operated Quality Exterior Inc. since 2006. His license was revoked by the Department of Revenue on May 12, 2011.
The charges carry a maximum penalty of $20,000 and 10 years in prison.

New veeps named
Veteran mortgage banking executives Donn Costa and Debbie Steck recently joined 1st Security Bank of Washington as senior vice presidents to lead in building a mortgage lending department at the group’s six locations.
Steck and Costa have worked together since the mid-1990s at then-named Lynnwood Financial Corp. That company became Golf Savings Bank in 2000 and was purchased by Sterling Financial in 2006. Previously they were with Phoenix Mortgage.
Costa most recently held the position of executive vice president of Sterling Savings Bank. Steck most recently held the position of senior vice president and operating officer of home lending at Sterling.

Miller Foundation awards $37K
In the first cycle of 2012, the Hazel Miller Foundation approved grants for public education assistance to the Edmonds Public Schools Foundation ($25,000). They also approved grants supporting youth activities through the Cascade Bicycle Club Education Foundation ($7,000), and the Rotary Club of Edmonds’ Daybreakers Foundation ($5,000) for another year of Jazz Connection, a free annual event featuring musicians from the Edmonds School District and Edmonds Community College.

City Hall is an Energy Star
Edmonds City Hall for the second year is being recognized for energy efficiency by the Environmental Protection Agency by being labeled an Energy Star building.
The label means the building performs in the top 20 percent of its peer structures across the country. City Hall also has reduced its consumption of power by nearly 5 percent since its baseline-rating year of 2007, according to Jim Stevens, facilities maintenance manager.
Snohomish County Tomorrow selects new officers
Snohomish County Tomorrow members selected officers for 2012 during their February steering committee meeting.
Mill Creek Councilman Terry Ryan and Snohomish County Councilman Brian Sullivan will co-chair. Jon Nehring, mayor of Marysville, and Stephanie Wright, vice chair of the Snohomish County Council, will share vice-chair responsibilities.
Snohomish County Tomorrow is a cooperative forum consisting of representatives from Snohomish County and each of its cities as well as from the Tulalip Tribes. The group’s primary function is to oversee the countywide planning policies, written policies on growth management from which the county and cities’ comprehensive plans are developed.
