Arvilla J. Ohlde, former director of parks and recreation for Edmonds, has been elected to a second term on the National Recreation and Park Association board of trustees. Within the board she was appointed co-chairman of the congressional public policy committee.
The announcement was made last week during the Virginia-based organization’s 40th annual Congress &Exposition in San Antonio, Texas.
After her retirement from the Edmonds directorship in 2004, Ohlde continued her involvement with the Washington Recreation and Park Association and serves on the Washington Fish and Wildlife Directors Lands Management Advisory Council. In addition to work on other outdoor-recreation agencies and programs, she also writes non-profit grants for the Edmonds Center for the Arts.
The national recreation and park board works closely with local, state, and national recreation and park agencies, citizen groups and corporations. Its priorities include advocating favorable legislation and public policy; continuing education for park and recreation professionals and citizens; providing professional certification, university accreditation, research and technical assistance; and increasing public awareness of the importance of parks and recreation. Its Web site is www.nrpa.org.
