LYNNWOOD — On July 17, Chaz and Sherry Lipp will present an evening of live music to help cover the cost of their pending Polish adoption. The show will be held at the Black Box Theatre at Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood.
Folk trio RedDog, an old-time string band specializing in Appalachian blues and folk, will be the featured performers.
Earlier this year, Rolling Stone magazine called RedDog’s album “Hard Times” a “fine debut.” Though a relatively new group, the musicians are experienced veterans. Doug Yule, RedDog’s fiddler and vocalist, was a member of the influential rock group The Velvet Underground. Mandolinist Cary Lung and guitarist/banjoist Tom Collicott are both fixtures of the old-time music scene.
All proceeds from the show will be applied toward the Lipp’s adoption fees and travel expenses, which will include a required trip to Poland, lasting up to four weeks. The final cost of the adoption is expected to exceed $25,000.
The show will open with jazz music courtesy of The Chaz Lipp Groove Trip. This ensemble, consisting of members of Seattle’s jazz community, was assembled specifically for this event.
“Being a musician myself, I like the idea of ‘singing for my supper.’ It allows me to contribute more directly,” said Chaz Lipp in a press release.
“The beneficiary of this event is the parentless child who we will eventually bring home,” said Sherry Lipp in a press release.
This year’s show will be the second event of its kind. The Lipps have built upon the experience they gained from last summer’s “Mission To Adopt” concert in order to present a more polished production.
