A fire broke out in a single-family home in Shoreline around 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 22. The home, located in the 1600 block of North 167th Street, was destroyed.

Neighbors discovered the fire and called 9-1-1, after seeing smoke pouring from the front windows and door. The home was occupied by renters, who were not there at the time of the fire.

The wood frame, single-story home with a basement was completely engulfed in flames and smoke as fire crews arrived.

Shoreline Fire was assisted by several units from the Northshore Fire Department. Investigators said the origin of the fire was in a mattress in the basement, but had not determined what ignited the mattress by The Enterprise deadline.
