More than a week has passed since the general election and there’s no telling who will be the newest commissioner for Snohomish County Fire District 1.

Since the Nov. 8 election, the lead has flip-flopped between fellow newcomers David Chan and Christopher Glenn, with Chan leading in results posted on Tuesday, The Enterprise’s deadline.

Glenn, of Lynnwood, trailed Chan in the early election night returns by 334 votes, took a 118 vote-lead when updated numbers were released Monday, Nov. 14. Then on Tuesday, Nov. 15, Chan, of Lake Serene, edged into a 61-vote lead, giving him 49.92 percent of the vote.

By law, county officials must recount the ballots by machine if the difference between candidates is less than half of a percent and fewer than 2,000 votes. A recount by hand is required if the difference is less than a quarter of a percent and fewer than 150 votes. Snohomish County must certify the election by Nov. 29.

In other area races, early results held up. Here is a summary of those results:

• Dave Gossett, D-Mountlake Terrace, retained his seat representing District 4 on the Snohomish County Council, defeating Eva Davies, R-Bothell, with about 59 percent of the vote.

• Laren “Larey” McLaren of Mays Pond won a seat on the Alderwood Water District board, defeating Carol Gilbert of Mountlake Terrace with about 57 percent of the vote.

• Fire District 7’s levy renewal passed with about 59 percent of the vote.

• Political newcomer Anne Backstrom of Everett won a seat on the Silver Lake Water District board, defeating fellow newcomer Alayna Martin, also of Everett, with about 54 percent of the vote.

• Voters in Snohomish County District 4, which includes Mill Creek and surrounding areas, elected City Council member Mark Bond, former Snohomish County Council member Barbara Cothern Hawksford, and current Fire District 1 commissioner Jim Kenny to the county Charter Review Commission. Those three were the leading vote-getters in the seven-candidate field for the commission, with voters choosing three representatives.
