The Edmonds Fire Department made 82 responses in and around Edmonds from Aug. 18-24, bringing the total for the year to 3,129.

Aug. 24

Firefighters were called upon to extinguish a bark fire at 224th Street SW. and Highway 99.

Firefighters responded to a call concerning a strong smell of natural gas in the vicinity of the 7500 block on 212th Street SW. After checking several buildings, storm drains and utility covers – it was determined that there was a leaky gas valve in the street. The PSE on the scene repaired the leak.

Medics responded to seven calls during the day.

Aug. 23

Medics responded to 11 calls.

Aug. 22

Medics responded to eight calls, including a two-car, rear-end accident in the 21000 block of Highway 99. Both the driver and passenger in the car struck from behind suffered back pains and were transported to Stevens Hospital on backboards.

Several of the Edmonds firefighters were dispatched to the city of Carnation to assist in fighting the forest fire on the outskirts of the city.

Aug. 21

Medics responded to 11 calls.

Firefighters responded to five false alarms.

Aug. 20

Firefighters responded to a fire at the Pacific Montessori Learning School, which turned out to be a small fire in a cardboard box in the gym which had burned itself out. The outside door to the kitchen was unlocked and juveniles had been seen on the premises.

Firefighters responded to an unattended cooking fire in the 800 block on Brookmere Drive. The homeowner, who had left the small fire unattended, extinguished the fire.

Medics responded to 10 calls including a two-car, rear-end collision in the 22400 block of Highway 99. The driver of the car which was rear ended suffered lower back pains and was backboarded to Stevens Hospital.

Aug. 19

Medics responded to 11 calls, including tending to the driver of a car that knocked over a light pole near the Edmonds “welcome” sign and the road leading to the ferry. He was not injured.

Aug. 18

Medics responded to 10 calls which included a rollover car accident at Makah Road and Woodway Park Road. The driver, who suffered lower back pains, was backboarded and transported to Stevens Hospital.
