The Edmonds Fire Department made 106 responses in and around Edmonds from October 20 – 26, bringing the total calls for the year to 2,925.
Oct. 26
Medics responded to six calls.
Firefighters were called upon to extinguish a vehicle fire in the 9600 block on 220th Street SW. Neighbors reported hearing sounds like fireworks just prior to seeing the car in flames.
Firefighters responded to a fire alarm in a building in the 23000 block of Highway 99. There was no fire, but water was flowing from a broken sprinkler pipe in a storage unit on the second floor resulting in water leaking onto the first floor. The crew turned off the water supply, drained off the water and notified the sprinkler company.
Oct. 25
Medics responded to 11 calls which included tending to persons involved in two two-car accidents. A two-car T-bone accident in the 23900 block of Highway 99 caused an unbelted passenger to suffer neck and back pains. He was backboarded and transported to Stevens for further evaluation. The second accident occurred in the 5000 block of 241st Street SW resulting in a second unrestrained passenger being backboarded and transported to Stevens.
Firefighters were summoned to assist two divers in distress from the water near the ferry landing.
Firefighters extinguished a small beach fire at 600 Admiral Way which a group of young people were using to cook dinner.
Oct. 24
Firefighters assisted the Lynnwood crew in extinguishing an apartment fire in the 19400 block of 40th Avenue W.
Medics responded to 12 calls.
Oct. 23
Medics responded to ten calls during the day.
Oct. 22
Medics were called out for another 14 calls.
Firefighters responded to five false alarms.
Oct. 21
Medics were very busy responding to 16 calls.
Oct. 20
Medics responded to 12 calls during the day including tending to two people involved in a three car accident in the 21000 block on 76th Avenue W. The two patients were treated and transported to Stevens.
Our area’s record breaking rainfall caused numerous flooding problems in the vicinity which brought out the fire crew for assistance. The first call was from a resident living in the 1200 block of Seventh Place South whose garage was flooded. Before the water could enter his basement, the fire crew pumped out the water. The second call for assistance was from a homeowner in the 22600 block of 76th Avenue W. who requested help in removing rising water in his crawl space. The third call was from a car driver stuck in a large puddle in the 100 block on West Dayton. The crew assisted the driver from the car and moved the vehicle to a safe parking stall.
Firefighters also responded to an emergency caused by a tree hanging over the road in the 16700 block on 44th Avenue West. The tree knocked down a power line – causing it to arc and ignite the tree. The fire crew and police blocked off the road and contacted the PUD.
