The Edmonds Fire Department made 80 responses within and around Edmonds during the week of April 14-20, bringing their total calls for the year to 1,437.
April 20
Firefighters responded to a call in the 19900 block of Maplewood Drive for a vehicle leaking gas. The owner, who noticed the leak after having filled his gas tank, called AAA, but they wouldn’t come out until the tank was empty. The owner complied by pumping out the gas with a hand pump into several gas cans.
April 19
Firefighters responded to a complaint of an illegal burn by a neighbor of a resident in the 7700 block of 234th St. SW. The fire crew found that the resident was burning papers and wood in his fireplace which was not illegal. While being notified that his neighbor’s fire was legal, the angry neighbor appeared and a shouting match ensued. To prevent further confrontation, Edmonds police were called.
Firefighters responded to another illegal burn complaint in the 9300 block of 232nd Street SW. A neighbor reported that a resident was burning tree limbs in his back yard. Firefighters told the resident that such burning was not allowed. The fire was extinguished, but the resident was told that he could have a fire in his freestanding fireplace/chimney if used for cooking and a garden hose was available.
Medics responded to 12 calls including two auto accidents. The first accident, occurring at 220th Street SW and 93rd Place W., was a two-car, rear-end collision. The driver of the rear car suffered minor abrasions of both wrists, while a child was injured in the rear-ended car and was treated at the scene. The second accident, at 205th Street SW and 76th Avenue W. was a three-vehicle accident caused by faulty brakes on a truck. No one was hurt.
April 17
Firefighters responded to an illegal bonfire in Yost Park. Upon arrival the crew could see a small fire back in the back woods. As they approached, the fire was being quickly extinguished and several people fled.
April 14
Medics responded to five calls, which included responding to an accident at the 1000 block on C. Ave. A head-on, glancing collision between a car and bus resulted in three people being treated. The bus driver suffered back and hip pains while one of his passengers, a young girl who fell to the floor of the bus, suffered neck and knee pains. The driver of the car suffered a possible rib fracture. All three were taken to Stevens Hospital for further evaluation.
