Freebies for senior citizens only

  • Tuesday, May 12, 2009 7:10pm

Some senior centers in the area give out free groceries on various days of the month. It is all donated by bakeries, grocers, produce places, etc., and drop-offs by members and the public. Phone your local senior center to find out the dates, hours, other stipulations, and if you have to be a member.

By the same token, at some senior centers a barber will spend a day cutting hair for a minimal fee. Both men’s and women’s hair. Phone the center to be put on the appointment list.

If you are unaware of what senior centers are all about, pick up a monthly bulletin and calendar. It may be worth a few dollars a year to join. They have many free activities and programs, and trips at low cost.
