Gateway Middle School in the Everett School District has hired a new principal for next fall.
Peter Scott, assistant principal at Evergreen Middle School in Everett, also has been a vice principal with the San Diego Unified School District. He also has been a math teacher in Boston, a research assistant at Harvard University, and a teaching and resource specialist in California.
Scott will replace Eldon Allen, who came out of retirement to serve as principal at Gateway this year.
AMHS will have new president
Robert Graby has been selected to be president of Archbishop Murphy High School.
He is a former president of Seattle Preparatory School and is currently the school’s vice president for development. He will assume the president’s duties July 1.
The school’s Board of Trustees adopted the president/principal model of governance last year. The president will be responsible for board of trustee relations, administrative staffing, long-range planning, budgeting and finances, community relations and fundraising, while the principal’s focus is on academic related activities.
Before coming to Seattle in 1996, Graby served at St. Ignatius College Prep in San Francisco as a teacher, counselor, administrator and coach. He received his doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of San Francisco in 1987.
Finance department earns honors
This year marks the 20th year in a row that Everett Public Schools’ finance department has earned the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO). It is the first year the department has applied for and also earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
Only eight of the state’s 295 school districts earned the ASBO award this year, and the GFOA honor was given to only five school districts and 68 municipalities in the state for this year.
