Gidget Terpstra has been elected chair by the Board of Trustees of Shoreline Community College. Her one-year term began June 30 and will end June 30, 2007.
Terpstra was appointed a trustee of the college by Gov. Gary Locke in July 2004, with her term ending September of 2008. She served as vice chair of the board in 2005-2006.
Terpstra works for the Shoreline School District as the District Homeless Education Liaison and as a Readiness to Learn Family Advocate at Parkwood School in Shoreline.
Terpstra has been active as a community volunteer and is on the board of the North Urban Human Services Alliance. She was a founding member of the Shoreline Community Resources Team and served nine years on the Shoreline Public Schools Foundation as secretary.
She was a director of the Northshore/Shoreline Community Safety Network, was co-president of Shoreline PTA Council as well as other PTAs, served on the city of Shoreline Human Services Task Force Advisory and was a member of the SCC Faces of Shoreline Advisory Committee.
She received a Washington State Award for Excellence in Education from the Superintendent of Public Instruction and Gov. Locke in 1999.
Terpstra is a third generation Japanese-American and grew up in Bellevue. She and her husband, Dennis, have lived in Shoreline for 34 years and have two children, Christopher and Carrie.
