Edmonds folks really do have money to burn.

More than $30,000 in individual contributions and business sponsorships has been received by the Greater Edmonds Chamber of Commerce to pay for its annual Fourth of July festivities. Chamber officials figured the cost this year to be about $33,000 to cover expenses ranging from a fireworks extravaganza to restrooms and post-party clean-up.

The chamber is continuing a tradition it began in Edmonds in 1908. Billed as an old-fashioned family Fourth of July celebration, the day-long free event attracts thousands of residents and visitors to town. Grand marshal for this year’s main parade is Tom King, a community supporter who has been involved with chamber-sponsored events for nearly 20 years.

First on the schedule is the children’s parade at 11:30 a.m. followed by the main parade at noon. At 2 p.m. in City Park, the Washington State Civil War Association will load and fire historic weapons. Following that demonstration is a waterball competition by the Edmonds Fire Department.

Pre-fireworks entertainment will begin at Civic Stadium at 7:30 p.m. The fireworks finale will be at approximately 10 p.m.
