Superintendent Jim Welsh and the Shoreline School Board welcomed Diane L. Goodwin on Monday as the new principal of Sunset Elementary School effective July 1.
In selecting Goodwin, Welsh noted her leadership on the district committee that established the foundation for the Read and Achieve program launched this year.
“The committee’s research into reading programs and proven best practices was crucial,” he said. “Thanks to the committee, we will leave no stone unturned to make sure every student graduating from our schools can read.”
Goodwin is currently serving as an assistant principal at Meridian Park Elementary, a position she has held during the school year. Prior to that she served for seven years as a resource room and Title I teacher at North City and Parkwood elementaries. She also has experience working with English Language Learners.
Goodwin holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington and a master’s from Seattle University. Additionally, she has education experience abroad, having taught in Japan for more than a year.
