It is an honor to bring you greetings and congratulations from each of us on the school board.

As I began thinking about my remarks, I realized that I could go on for hours talking about your years in high school….your many accomplishments, as well as the experiences you’ve had to prepare you for this day that launches you into your future.

I started listing all the advice and wisdom on a variety of topics that I should share with you. Then a friend reminded me about the fate of the famous greek philosopher, socrates, who lived a long time ago. Socrates was very intelligent but, socrates gave long speeches, and his friends killed him…..

So with that lesson in mind, I’ll try to be brief!

This is one of those rare moments in life when you find yourself looking back on where you have been, while at the same time looking at the future. Enjoy the day.

Behind you are memories and experiences and people you will never forget and heartfelt emotions that will fade but never dissapear.

Ahead of you are exciting new challenges and dreams, ones that we know you are ready for.

I will close with words from another famous philosopher I believe you are familiar with:

Dr. Seuss, on the places you’ll go!

You’ll be on your way!

You’ll be seeing great sights!

You’ll join the high fliers who soar to great heights!

You won’t lag behind, because you’ll have the speed.

You’ll pass the whole gang and you’ll soon take the lead.

Wherever you fly, you be the best of the best.

Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.

Congratulations class of 2003!
