Grocery shop ‘til you drop

I love to grocery shop. I always have. When I was young I’d look forward to going with my Mom and we’d spend hours there getting every little thing we needed.

Now, I take my kids, sometimes all four at a time with me to the grocery store, and they like it too. I find it’s a great place to teach them all sorts of things.

I also love to cook—which might have something to do with my love of grocery stores, food quality and value in general.

I am so excited for the opening of Central Market in Mill Creek and love to go to the one in Shoreline when I have the chance (I like to meander there without children).

The basic foods such as canned goods, frozen items and baby products, do seem to be a little more expensive there, so I don’t do BIG shopping there— but for on-the-go “homemade” meals for a family or buying particular, fresh items for a special meal I don’t think it gets much better. Not to mention, the wine and beer selection is fantastic. I can’t forget about Trader Joe’s in Lynnwood. I was so excited when Lynnwood got one. This store— if you don’t already know it, is another place that is so fun to go to— and has a large variety of unique and common items for a great value.

For meat: If you happen to have been living in a cave for the past 50 years and don’t know about the family owned and operated DD Meats in Mountlake Terrace — you need to go there and check out their high quality and good value cuts of meat. And what’s even better, to me —who loves spicy food— is they also have hundreds— maybe thousands of varieties of hot sauce there.

I also love and belong to Costco — what a great concept that is!

For BIG shopping, which for my family, my husband Keith and I do a lot, we prefer to go to either Top Foods in Edmonds, Safeway on the corner of 196th and Highway 99 in Lynnwood, or Fred Meyer in Lynnwood. It just depends on timing and where we are when we need to do the shopping.

Hands down, in my opinion, the best customer service and friendly faces are at the Lynnwood Safeway. Also— the Chinese food there is better than some sit down restaurants—Yummy! And if you have a Safeway card, they have some great deals-but you have to have the card.

Fred Meyer is convenient for me. It is close to work and home and sometimes I let the kids play in the Freddy’s play area and they like that. Fred Meyer is a good choice when you need to buy items other than groceries.

Top Foods in Edmonds has one of the best bakeries around. I love that they carry their pumpkin bread now all year round and their Ciabatta bread is better than most! Just in general this store is the best well rounded grocery store around with variety, quality and value.
