Shoreline Water District Commissioner Charlotte Haines is up for re-election Nov. 4 in an unopposed race.

Haines, 40, is a retired purchasing agent and has served on the commission for one year, filling the remainder of Mike Harrigan’s term. She is president of the North City Neighborhood Association, member of the Shoreline Council of Neighborhoods and has worked on the Celebrate Shoreline parade.

She is running for re-election because, “I have an interest in future water quality compliance, resource development, growth and services,” she said.

Haines said the water commission is developing a plan on how to get information to residents should there be some sort of natural disaster or event such as September 11.

“The district is working with the fire department, police department, the city of Shoreline on putting together plans in case of a natural disaster, so we have something in place should something happen,” she said.

Shoreline Water District is also in discussions with Seattle over becoming the sole water provider for the entire city of Shoreline. Right now, the city of Seattle provides some of those services.

Haines said the water district recently received a report card from the Department of Health on the quality of their water.

“We got a terrific rating, and we are proud and think we have been doing a fairly good job,” Haines said.
