Trailing 3-1 with four minutes remaining, Monroe forced overtime when Austin Cohn found Shane McDivitt off a free kick and Andrew Barrett scored on a penalty kick with 1:26 remaining.

Jake Fortune (one goal) kicked the game-winning penalty kick to hand Monroe, which pulled off its eighth come-from-behind victory of the season, the 4-3 win in the Class 4A District 1 loser-out boys soccer game May 11 at Monroe High School.

Eric Cervantez scored two goals for Terrace and Jonathan Alvarez also scored. Terrace (8-8-2 overall) started Ben Winters in goal. Monroe started Miles Garman in goal. Monroe (12-5-0) plays the loser of Tuesday’s Snohomish-Kamiak game on Thursday.

TERRACE EARNS DISTRICT BERTH: The Hawks earned a 4A District 1 playoff berth, defeating Arlington 2-0 in a play-in game May 9 at Edmonds Stadium. Freshman Jonathan Alvarez scored both of the Hawks’ goals, totaling 21 goals this season.

In the 27th minute, junior Manix Alvarez, Jonathan’s brother, chipped a shot over the defense from around 30 yards to Jonathan for a one-on-one opportunity with Arlington goalie Cory Ferris, and Jonathan scored.

In the 46th minute, Manix corralled a ball played down the right side, slotted it between two Eagle defenders, and Jonathan put the ball in the back of the net for a 2-0 Terrace advantage.

“We opened the field up and it stretched the field out,” Terrace head coach Ken Higgins said of the success that the Hawks had. “Jonathan is a marked man in Wesco, so we were trying everything possible to free him up.”

Arlington had plenty of corner kick opportunities Higgins said, but Hawks goalie Ben Winters was up for the challenge.

“Ben had a really good game in goal, this is his third shutout this season,” Higgins said after Winters stopped 18 Eagles shots.

Arlington goalie Cory Ferris stopped close to 15 Terrace shots Higgins said.

MEADOWDALE FALLS: Sedro-Woolley got goals from Richard Weyrich, Vyacheslev Sherbokov and Jed Givens to beat Meadowdale 3-2 in a 3A District tournament game May 9 at Edmonds Stadium. Alan Vancleave was in goal for Sedro-Woolley. Kenneth Hill was the goalkeeper for Meadowdale (5-12-0). Meadowdale’s first goal was scored by Luke Dempsey.
