LYNNWOOD — An 85-year-old Edmonds woman is being investigated for driving under the influence of alcohol, police said, after an accident at about 3 p.m. April 2 on Highway 99 in Lynnwood.
The woman and a driver of a Dodge Caravan were taken to hospitals after the woman made a left hand turn in front of oncoming traffic, police reports stated.
According to police reports, the woman was driving a Mercury Sable southbound in the two-way left turn lane in the 19100 block of Highway 99 when she attempted to make a left turn into the Business Costco in front of a northbound Dodge Caravan.
“The impact forces caused the van to veer to the right and it then collided with a fire hydrant and rolled onto its side in the process,” police reports stated. “The hydrant was up-rooted and went several feet and collided with a car parked in the Costco lot and came to rest on the driver’s side.”
The van driver, a 20-year-old Everett man, was taken to a local hospital for neck pain and the Edmonds woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center for leg pain. Both drivers were alone in their vehicles.
According to police officials, no citations have been issued at this time, but the Sable driver is under investigation for DUI.
