Highway 99 proposals a boost for region

A major remodel for Highway 99 may be in the works.

A vital link between our communities and the rest of the Puget Sound region, the historic highway has become a bit of an eyesore, littered with mile after mile of strip malls and car lots.

Recently, cities along Highway 99 have taken steps to improve the look of this thoroughfare, steps the Enterprise definitely encourages.

In Shoreline, construction is expected to start on the middle phase of the Aurora Corridor Project, which includes improving pedestrian safety and comfort, and making the highway more attractive.

Lynnwood recently stepped up to the game with plans to give a four-mile stretch of road a “neighborhood feel,” including more apartments and condominiums, and new mix of businesses.

While some of these changes may be far in the future, it’s heartening to know the highway is a priority to those in charge.
