After missing out on a state berth by miniscule margins the past two seasons, the scores were finally in Alie Hofmann’s favor this year.
The Shorewood junior landed her first trip to the Class 4A state gymnastics championships, Feb. 21-22 at the Tacoma Dome.
Hofmann qualified in bars by placing 12th overall with a score of 8.0 at the District 1/2 meet Feb. 15 at Sammamish High School.
“She knew coming off the bars she had done a good job,” Shorewood coach Susan Riley said. “She got excited when the judges flashed an 8. We had been tracking the scores and I told her if she got an 8 she was in.”
Hofmann finished 21st in the vault with a mark of 8.125, leaving her .025 shy of a second state berth. Shorewood senior Katie Brick fell a tenth of a point short of moving on in the vault.
Inglemoor claimed the regional title with a team score of 177.225, followed by Woodinville (174.275), Redmond (169.85), Roosevelt (165.425) and Shorewood (147.675).
The Thunderbirds have sent at least one gymnast to state every year since the 1986-87 season.
