Jackson boys, girls advance to state

Jackson scored big at the Class 4A District 1-2 cross country championships Oct. 30 at South Whidbey High School.

Both the boys and girls teams advanced to this week’s state championship. The boys took second place behind Skyline, while the girls finished fourth.

Skyline of District 2 had three individuals among the top 10 and won the team title with 71 points. Jackson (88 points) finished second, led by junior Blake Nelson (eighth place) and senior Sean Roe (ninth place).

Other individual state qualifiers included Edmonds-Woodway’s Ryan Thompson (17th).

In the 3A boys race, Meadowdale’s Matt Crichlow (fifth) and Mountlake Terrace’s Jack Pearce (12th) advanced to state. Archbishop Murphy’s Connor Ballew (second) and Sam Holeman (third) earned 2A slots.

Edmonds-Woodway’s Amia Nash finished 16th in the 4A girls race and qualified for state. Archbishop Murphy’s Michaela Bartz took 17th in the 2A competition.
