Jackson’s hard work in the preseason looks to be paying off.
Dani Oster scored three goals and Kristi Kingma added two goals to lead the Timberwolves to a 5-2 victory over Kamiak in the Western Conference 4A South Division girls soccer opener for both teams Sept. 30 at Jackson High School.
The Wolfpack (1-0 in the league, 4-3 overall) played some of the hardest possible preseason games in order to better themselves.
“In the preseason, we scheduled tough games so we could test ourselves,” said Jackson coach Mike Bartley. “We are a better team now (because of it.)”
The Timberwolves have their eye on the state playoffs and are confident they can reach their goal.
“We’re going to win Wesco and go to state,” said senior forward Kaley Mitchell. “All we think about is winning.”
“We are going to win,” said junior captain Dani Oster.
The Wolfpack has been practicing hard nearly every day both on and off the field.
“We have been training hard mentally and physically,” said senior Katie Waldin. “We go over formations and strategy for an hour and then go practice on the field.”
The game taught the Timberwolves a good lesson and enabled the team to get off to a good start in league play. Kamiak took 2-1 lead early in the second half before Jackson rallied for four goals.
“Thursday’s game was great,” said Mitchell. “We learned as a team that we could come back and win.”
“We are very fast and lethal as far as offense goes,” Bartley added. “We are still working really hard on defense.”
Jackson improved to 2-0 in league play with a 2-0 victory over Mountlake Terrace Tuesday night. Farrah Ragsdale and Kara Jondal each scored a goal.
The focus of the Timberwolves is winning the league title.
“Our main goal is to go to get the Wesco South title,” said Bartley. “Along with the title comes the seed that goes to state. That’s our goal right now.”
