Meadowdale senior Tara Jacob has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball for Seattle Pacific University next season.
Jacob, a 6-foot senior, returned from knee surgery last season and averaged 7.6 points and over six rebounds as the Lady Mavericks went 26-1 and finished fourth in the state 3A tournament. Meadowdale won the state title in 2000, was fourth in 2001 and fifth in 2002.
Jacob joins forward Rachel Strand (King’s) and guard Beth Christensen (Enumclaw) in Gordy Presnell’s recruiting class. Seattle Pacific lost four seniors, including three starters, to graduation.
The Falcons, who were 29-1, won the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and advanced to the NCAA Division II West Regional championship game.
Lynnwood senior Reece Cogdill has signed a letter of intent to wrestle for Dana College in Blair, Neb. Dana College is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the highly competitive Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).
In his senior year, Cogdill took first place in the 215-pound division at the Class 3A state championships.
The Vikings compete against top NAIA and even NCAA opponents in the early season, preparing themselves for a tough dual schedule as well as regional and national competition.
Dana is the only NAIA college in Nebraska that currently offers wrestling. In the last three years, Dana has had 28 NAIA National Qualifiers, five NAIA Academic All-Americans and four NAIA All-Americans.
Last season, the Dana College wrestling team earned its best finish in school history at the NAIA Nationals and brought home an all-time single season high of four All-American wrestlers.
