Skandia Folkdance Society’s First Friday Dance will host a special evening of live music with the Hoag-Kelley-Pilzer trio Friday, Nov. 3 at Cedar Valley Grange in Lynnwood.
Andrea Hoag, Loretta Kelley and Charlie Pilzer will play music for the group’s bi-weekly dance event, presenting a mix of Scandinavian favorites, including schottis, snoa, hambo, mixers, waltzes and polska/pols.
A versatile and imaginative dance musician, Hoag has played for American contra and square dancing, English country dancing, Scandinavian, swing and vintage couple dancing for over 20 years. Kelley is well known within the Scandinavian dance community and is acknowledged as one of the foremost American-born Hardanger fiddle players. Pilzer has toured and recorded for 25 years as a bass player with Spælimenninir, a Scandinavian folk group based in the Faroe Islands. He is well known as a dance musician (piano and bass) for New England and Scandinavian folk dances and has toured from Maine to Alaska.
The evening begins with members and guests sharing potluck snacks. Then prior to the trio taking the stage, Don Meyers and Kathi Ploeger teach the Norwegian dance Telespringar from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The trio will also be teaching music workshops from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 and 1 to 2:30 p.m. at a private residence. The music workshops are $12 per session for members and $15 per session for guests.
