The Everett Ensemble of Village Theatre’s KIDSTAGE program presents the musical production “Honk! Jr.” in four performances June 9 through 11.

Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Ugly Duckling,” “Honk! Jr.” is the story of Ugly (Aliya Kunz) whose odd, gawky looks instantly incite prejudice from his family and neighbors. Separated from the farm and pursued by a hungry Cat (Addison Howley), Ugly must find his way home. Along his rollicking and harrowing journey he not only discovers his true beauty and destiny, but also finds love and acceptance in all its forms.

The production features 27 youth in grades 4 through 7, as well as many as 10 additional performers ages 5-6. The Everett Ensemble is a part of Village Theatre’s KIDSTAGE program, which provides young performers the opportunity to experience the power of working as a team in a theatre ensemble, under the guidance of professional theatre instructors and with the benefit of professional costume, set, sound, and light design. “Honk! Jr.” is directed by Bryce Britton and choreographed by Jessica Low, with musical direction by John Allman.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday &Saturday June 9 and 10, and 2 p.m. Saturday &Sunday, June 10 and 11, at the Everett Performing Arts Center, located at 2710 Wetmore Ave. in Everett. Tickets are $8 and $9, available by calling the box office at 425-257-8600 or online at www.villagetheatre. org.
