By sweeping the Chinook League titles, the King’s boys and girls basketball teams assured themselves a spot in this year’s Tri-district tournament.

But not necessarily a top seed.

Since the Chinook League adopted a league tournament for 2003-04, a regular-season title wasn’t enough to secure a No. 1 seed to the playoffs.

Both King’s teams were scheduled to play last night in games that will decide the league’s top two seeds to Tri-districts.

The King’s boys survived a three-team playoff on Monday to earn a first-round bye in the league tournament.

Behind 27 points, 12 rebounds and six steals from senior Chris Faidley, the Knights defeated Bellevue Christian 41-38 and Life Christian 31-16 in a pair of 16-minute games.

The King’s girls bypassed Tuesday’s first-round action by going undefeated in league play for the fourth year in a row.

Tri-districts begin Feb. 18 and continue through Feb. 28. The top six boys and girls teams receive Class 1A state tournament berths.
