The King’s girls basketball is joining forces with Athena to raise breast cancer awareness in the school’s first annual “Pink Game” on Jan. 29. The event will take place at 7 pm in Mike Martin Gym on the King’s High School campus against Cascade Conference opponent Coupeville.
The game will function as a fundraiser, with all funds from admissions, concessions, and other donations going to Athena for breast cancer research.
Head Coach Dan Taylor and senior Makenzie Taylor (no relation) are working closely with King’s High School administration and local business sponsors. From the team’s special pink jerseys to the breast cancer survivor speaking at halftime, the night will revolve around the goal of supporting breast cancer research.
Athena is a not-for-profit corporation founded by a Seattle-area cancer survivor committed to eliminating women’s cancers by advancing research and education. Debbie Berg, mother of Lady Knights’ freshman Jeanna Berg, works for Athena and is also aiding the Knights in their efforts to make the Pink Game a successful and beneficial event.
The first 100 fans at the game will receive free pink T-shirts.
