Lynnwood’s Vince Kinney backed up his words.

Following the Western Conference South Division meet, Kinney said he thought he could qualify for state in the 300-meter hurdles and the high jump at the Northwest District 3A track and field championships.

The Lynnwood junior accomplished his goals with a pair of first-place finishes and earned a trip to Pasco’s Edgar Brown Stadium for this weekend’s Class 3A state meet.

Kinney jumped a personal best 6 feet, 5 inches in the high jump and then clocked a 39.48 in the 300 hurdles, which was almost a second faster than his time at the Wesco South championships and also a personal best.

Kinney will have plenty of company in Pasco. The top three finishers from districts earned state berths.

Teammate Parys Fox won the long jump (21-7) and Randall Eldridge finished first in the triple jump (43-71/4). Fox also placed second in the 100 (11.34) and Eldridge was third in long jump (21-73/4). Tim Carrithers took third in the 400 (51.73) and Lynnwood’s 400 relay team also came in third.

Meadowdale’s Kevin Myhre won the 110 high hurdles (15.32) and was third in the 300 hurdles (40.35). Teammate Duncan Hendrick posted a pair of third-place finishes in the 1,600 (4:23.39) and 3,200 (9:42.44). Dustin Redding placed third in the 110 hurdles.

In the girls competition, Meadowdale’s Monika Gruszecki easily won the javelin (137-5), finishing almost 20 feet ahead of Ferndale’s Kelly Christianson. Teammate Kanisha Draper took third in the 200 (26.74) and Meadowdale’s 800 relay team was second (1:47.01).

Lynnwood’s Caitlin Bonney finished second in the 300 hurdles (45.73) and Nikki D’Amico was third in the 1,600 (5:18.29). The Royals’ 1,600 relay team placed third (4:07.74).

The Lynnwood boys finished fourth overall in the team competition, while Meadowdale was seventh. Sehome won the team title.

The Meadowdale girls finished eighth. Sehome also claimed the girls team championship.
