King’s went down to the wire to secure a return trip to the Class A Tri-district boys basketball tournament.
The Knights finished the regular season in a three-way tie for second in the Chinook League standings with Bellevue Christian and Life Christian.
King’s earned the league’s No. 2 seed to districts by topping Life Christian 36-33 in a half-game tiebreaker Tuesday at Seattle Christian School.
In another half-game, Life Christian defeated Bellevue Christian to advance to the winner-to-district game against the Knights, who received a first-round bye during a drawing earlier in the week.
Chris Faidley and Sam Hartman combined for 27 points for King’s, which led from start to finish. The Knights were up 29-20 with 1:27 remaining before Life Christian hit three 3-pointers to close the gap to 31-29 with 47 seconds to go.
Hartman and Faidley added five free throws down the stretch to seal the win. As a team, King’s was 20-for-24 from the free throw line.
The Knights will face LaConner in the first round of the playoffs at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at Mountlake Terrace High School.
