Nature abounds when Charlotte Jackson picks up her paint brush and portrays her love of the Northwest landscapes and flowers. Her “Landscapes and Flowers” will be on display at Gallery North in Edmonds through the month of August.

Painting is an unexpected joy for Jackson since she started this journey relatively late in life. Her emphasis on florals has evolved naturally, but she attributes any measure of talent or success to the “Original Artist” — and to her mother. “I didn’t inherit my mother’s green thumb so my garden is nothing like hers, but I did inherit her love of flowers,” remembers Jackson. Painting is her way of “growing” a garden.

Jackson’s New England heritage and love of the sea carry over into her paintings as well. Her roots are in New England, but she has come to appreciate and be inspired by the leisurely pace and unique beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

An artist’s reception is planned from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 and will be open to the public. Jackson will also demonstrate her art from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, during Third Thursday Artwalk. Gallery North is located at Dayton Place next to Horizon Bank at 122 Fifth Ave. in Edmonds. The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
