Latin band Orchestra Zarabanda brings its sultry Cuban dance music to Shoreline Unitarian Universalist Church March 3 as part of the church’s Full Moon Concert Series.
Formerly known as Yerbabuena, the retooled Orchestra Zarabanda is a 12-piece Seattle-based dance band whose repertoire is inspired by the great Cuban orquestas and son groups of the last century, classic New York salsa/charanga and Cuban folkloric music.
Orchestra Zarabanda brings to the stage fun and highly professional performances of thoughtfully conceived arrangements. Equally at home in dance halls and concert halls, Orchestra Zarabanda is known for a trademark sound of sultry melodies contrasted with syncopated and exacting rhythms.
Band members include Elspeth Savani (bandleader, lead vocals, clarinet), Tom Bergersen (congas), Theodora Fogarty (violin), Fred Hoadley (piano, tres and vocals), Irene Mitri (violin), Miguel A. Munoz (vocals), Jeff Norwood (bass), Jim O’Halloran (flute), Alfredo Polier (vocals), Tyler Reilly (violin), Steve Smith (bongo, guiro) and Chris Stromquist (timbales, percussion).
Upcoming concerts in the Full Moon series feature the City Cantabile Choir on March 30, Latin group La Lira on April 28 and Balkan women’s vocal ensemble Dunava on June 2.
